After working in the corporate world all of my life I decided that it was time for a change and a new challenge. My passion for dogs led me to follow the path to become a professional dog groomer.
I enrolled on the professional Level 3 Diploma Dog Grooming course at British School of Grooming off the back of a recommendation from a lady who volunteer at the same animal rescue as me, and it was the best thing I have ever done. After graduating I set up a mobile dog grooming business Fur Coats and Clippers.
When I started training at British School of Grooming the course was a really flexible around my hectic lifestyle, and as this was a complete career change for me from a high profile regional manager role it was an enormous change and challenge for me personally.
I had no reason to worry. The Head of Centre, Derek and the tutor were very aware of my requirements and we had a great rapport. All the dogs that we groomed through the course practical sessions were completely different and from day one it was full blown hands on experience. All my expectations were met and then some.
The support and guidance provided at British School of Grooming was fantastic and the course not only covered the grooming practicalities it also covered marketing, advertising and setting up your own business as well as animal health care and first aid. As I had been a regional manager most of my career this was a huge change for me but I received loads of help and advice about advertising and setting up social media, a website and my own business; I have never looked back.
I am delighted to say my new career has really taken off. I am fully booked and very busy. I am doing something I really enjoy; working with dogs, meeting new people and their pets and I have the freedom of working for myself with the hours to suit me. Deciding to be a mobile groomer with my van was the ideal set up for me and I love being out and about. Besides going to the customers at home I regularly visit local caravan parks in the area and have built up good client bases there.
It is all thanks to Derek and the tutors at British School of Grooming.
